Long-sightedness
Long-sightedness, also known as hyperopia, is a common refractive error where distant objects can be seen more clearly than close ones. This condition occurs when the eye is too short or the cornea has too little curvature, causing light to focus behind the retina instead of directly on it.
Long QT syndrome
A heart rhythm disorder that can potentially cause fast, chaotic heartbeats.
Long QT syndrome can be inherited or caused by a medication or condition. It often goes undiagnosed or is misdiagnosed as a seizure disorder, such as epilepsy.
People with this condition may not develop symptoms for a long time. When symptoms do occur, they can be severe and may include sudden fainting, seizures or even sudden death.
Treatment can involve medical devices, lifestyle changes or medication, such as beta blockers.
Local anaesthesia
Local anesthesia, also called local anesthetic, is usually a one-time injection of medicine that numbs a small area of the body. It is used for procedures such as performing a skin biopsy or breast biopsy, repairing a broken bone, or stitching a deep cut.
Liver transplant
Liver transplantation or hepatic transplantation is the replacement of a diseased liver with the healthy liver from another person. Liver transplantation is a treatment option for end-stage liver disease and acute liver failure, although availability of donor organs is a major limitation.
Liver disease
Liver disease encompasses a wide range of conditions that affect the liver's function and structure. The liver is a vital organ responsible for many essential processes, including detoxification, metabolism, and production of important proteins. Liver diseases can result from various factors, including infections, alcohol use, genetic disorders, and metabolic syndromes.
